Maybe frame deep on our lowest clearance vehicle. Just past the wooden bridge, turn left and head west, again following the sign for Tincup Pass. It's only open to the top and not down to the lake. The high-end rating of this trail is due to the "Old Tincup" route between waypoints 8 and 10. A lot of the time you will have to ford through the lake. If you take the easiest lines I would rate this trail a 3. The pictures from the way points don't look like the trail when I did this. The pass isn't much farther. This giant loop makes for a long day, but it certainly is a fun one rich in history. Just drove this on Sunday, 10/17/21 in a 21' JL manual Rubi with KO2's, started in Tin Cup and needed 4W LO a couple of times, aired down to 26psi. This trail was amazingly fun. An ordinary stock Jeep, 4-wheel-drive vehicle or ATV is capable of reaching the top. The old section is most difficult, as appears seldom run as very overgrown. Made it almost to Waypoint 5. Cave Creek Regional Park. Maximum 8 persons per site: 2 tents and 2 vehicles or 1 recreation vehicle (RV). we went from home in BV over Cottonwood Pass and then back over Tincup to St.Elmo. Saw 2 motorcycles on the trail near the pass and that was all. Mosquito threat level 6 out of 10 haha. After the last switchback, the road was covered with snow for roughly 150ft. Colorado has had massive snows this past winter so mirror lake covers the road. The Taylor Park Trading Post and the small town of Tincup are your best bet for cabins in the upper park. Snow is extremely deep and off camber before ever approaching the switchbacks. The views from Tincup pass are amazing and it is a fun trail that is closer to a 3 if you skip the Old Tincup route (there was someone stuck going uphill and we did not do the old route). This is an old mining town. The Colorado Trail is an established, marked, and mostly non-motorized trail open to hikers, horse riders, and bicyclists. There is a TON of snow up on the pass still. Head uphill on well-marked County Road 267. This is the first time I've been in this area. Always a rocky start, but the payoff is spectacular with its killer views. Visitors should purchase a San Isabel National Forest map which shows the various roads in the Chalk Creek area. An afternoon trip to get away from it all, but then to see it all. Just run Tin Cup. I'm not really sure whether my track fell all or in part of the more difficult "Old Tincup" route but when I compare to other trails that fall into the 3-5 range (Cinnamon and Engineer Passes, Bull Park, etc), the size of the rocks doesn't feel like it deserves any less than a 5 - at least if you're going up from Tincup.
